My Farewell.

Dream. A simple word when made into reality is immeasurably powerful. In these last few moments as Miss Perham 2011 I am overwhelmed with emotion by my dreams realized; not only as your Miss Perham 2011, but as Paige Meyer. I give all the credit first to my Creator for intricately knowing the desires my heart and giving me people to love and shape me through my dreams.

Mom, thank you for loving me when I was overwhelmed, excited, nervous, and full of joy in the many experiences I had this year. From college, to trips to New York, Washington D.C, California (alone!), Miss Minnesota, and endless other appearances and job shifts. Dad, thank you for your encouragement throughout my endeavors this year as well. Know I will always be behind you in the challenges you face. Terry, where would I be without your behind the scenes acts of love? From providing financially, complementing an outfit, and going with the flow of pageant craziness. My brothers and sisters, thank you for loving me even when I had to miss one of your big events to be Miss Perham.

To Gina, my faithful guide and supporter. Every minute you spent contributed to who you see stand before you today. As you now begin a new leadership role in the Miss America Organization please know your years of service in Perham continue to leave a legacy. Selfless women and volunteers like you are the roots to this organization. Candice, you will never experience enough of my gratitude for our conversations we had about pageants, college, but more importantly God’s calling for our lives. Robin, my beloved ballet teacher, thank you for taking my stencil of “Via Dolorosa” for Miss Minnesota and turning it into a work of art. Bob and Laurie Sazama, you both are extraordinary examples of genuine supporters.

To my readers of the East Otter Focus, it was an honor to be your weekly columnist. Each one of you who took time to thank me for my articles consistently reminded me of the honor I had to be your representative. To the students, staff, and educators at Perham Public Schools, thank you for allowing me to share my platform “It’s No Joke, Say NO to Smoke,” in your classrooms. To SADD National, for allowing me to influence my entire generation across the United States. I always appreciated your support and love as I was not only serving on the Student Leadership Council of SADD National, but also with the Miss America Organization.

My beautiful Miss Minnesota Class of 2012 sisters. The Lord had a big plan for the state of Minnesota as each of us became Miss Local’s. My experience at Miss Minnesota would not have been as inspiring without each of you. I am continually thankful and uplifted to know people who share a similar desire to leave a powerful legacy in this world.

To the community of Perham and sponsors of the Miss Perham Scholarship Program, as I was crowned just one short year ago my number one goal was to further establish the Miss Perham Organization. As I now become a former Miss Perham my hope is that you will continue to embrace your new titleholder. I ask this because you embraced me with open arms. To the contestants of Miss Perham, every one of you have a unique path laid for you, and for one lies the title of Miss Perham 2012. Whether that journey is ahead for you, always remain confident in the contribution you hold to our world.

As I crown your new Miss Perham the last sentence of my year will be written, but more importantly another dream realized and fulfilled. Remain strong and confident that I will continue to carry the love of Perham, and my dreams realized here, wherever I am lead next.

Blessings and much love,
Paige  Meyer
Miss Perham 2011

My last few days as Miss Perham...

Well, my last week as Miss Perham was better than I had imagined. I couldn't have asked for a better week. I sure was a busy lady as I was leading rehearsals with our 2012 contestants each evening, heading to the Turtle Races, Rotary meetings, last minute visiting royalty appearances, and of course work. I wanted to give everything I had my last week.

Today has been a bittersweet day as I have had much time to reflect on my experiences and the people who have touched my life this past year. The Miss America Organization has changed my life. It has expanded my aspirations and goals and has challenged me to become my absolute best for others. I will be honest and say it is difficult to close this chapter. I have dreamed of being Miss Perham for many years. Our MC Miss Perham 2001, Elizabeth Tweeton was the first Miss Perham crowning I remember witnessing. Standing on the stage ten years later, speaking with her about my year, was an incredible realization of my dream fulfilled. For one last time as Miss Perham 2011 I shared my talents with my voice, and classical ballet. It felt so good to be on the stage I call home. Thank you everyone who came to see me and the contestants vying for Miss Perham 2012 last evening.

I am thrilled to share my pageant journey is still being created as I write to you. As I look ahead to my next adventure I am confident it will carry many blessings. Please stay tuned with what is in store for me next.

I will be releasing my new website very soon! Here you will be able to learn more about me and my new exciting aspirations. Stay tuned!

Much love and God's abundant blessings,
Paige

EOT article highlighting Miss Perham 2012.

Greetings Perham,
The month of August has arrived. It wasn’t that long ago since I made my way home from college in Jamestown, ND. I am now less than a month away from heading back to college as a sophomore. I can hardly believe how fast the time has flown I really have realized how precious time really is during this last year. Speaking of which, I will be crowning the new Miss Perham next Friday evening. I now officially have one week left as your Miss Perham 2011.
Looking at my next adventures will be my light and inspiration as I crown my successor. A valuable lesson I have learned whenever a big moment in my life concludes is to take a moment of appreciation and look forward in anticipation to the next adventure. It can be very easy to reflect upon the favorite moments in our lives and be bogged down as they conclude. Of course I will be sad to see my year as Miss Perham 2011 come to a close, but I am confident that a very exciting adventure awaits me next. I am thrilled to see the new place I will begin to invest time, talent, and energy into. I am also eager to see who the next lady will be the next representative for our community.
The Miss Perham Scholarship Program will be held in the Perham High School Auditorium on August 10th at 7:00 p.m. We have five young ladies competing for Miss Perham 2012. Tickets can be purchased at the door. The pageant feature the contestants and will include guest performers such as Sam Stoll, Amy Kalina Braddox, and Christian Bueng. I will also be sharing my talent selection from Miss Minnesota as well as singing a little number. Please consider coming to see some local talent! Have a wonderful week.

Days in Frazee, 1st Annual Meyer Family "Jump in the Lake 5K," and the Turtle Races

Well guys, my last few weeks as Miss Perham have been going with a bang!

Last weekend I spent some time  in Frazee to cheer on the local ladies competing for the title of Miss Frazee and Miss Frazee's Outstanding Teen. The beautiful eight young ladies who competed were excellent representatives of their community. I sure enjoyed watching their talents and hearing them speak about their personal platforms. it's always such a wonderful experience. Congrats to Miss Frazee 2010 Emily Kallis for doing a wonderful job MCing the show. Congrats also to the new Miss Frazee Rebecca and her outstanding teen sister Becca. You will both do a wonderful job!

My first appearance as Miss Perham was the Frazee Pageant and the Turkey Days Parade. Once again on Sunday I rode the streets of Frazee from the top of the Perham Express. It was so nice to see some local faces at the parade. The community of Frazee has always been so supportive of my life in pageants. I am so thankful for them. It was a bit bittersweet to ride the Perham Express one last time as Miss Perham.

My Dad's side of the family is in town! His five siblings and all of their children have had tons of time to be at the lake. I sure have enjoyed their company this past week. We even started a new tradition the Meyer Family "Jump in the Lake 5K." I have been wanting to do a 5K for about two years now and am so happy to say I did it!! To do it for the first time with my family was such an inspiring experience. It was great! My goal was to complete the race in less than 30 minutes...I did it with a time of 27:01! I have no idea how great that time is, but it will work for  me. My jump in the lake was probably my best yet as well. If you have never challenged yourself to a 5K give it a shot!

After my 5K race I made my way to Perham to congratulate the Turtle Race heat winners! We had 40 plus racers today. The beautiful morning sure did add to the wonder of the entire day. I love seeing how many people come from all over to participate in the International Turtle Races.

Well guys, the countdown is on just 9 more days as your Miss Perham.

Much love,
Paige

A valuable learning experience...Water Skiing.

Greetings Perham,
Once again, it is so nice to be here in the EOT Focus for yet another week. This past week sure has been quite warm! Over the weekend I experienced the heat firsthand as I rode atop the Perham Express Train in the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Parade. I love the month of July in our wonderful state of Minnesota.
On Monday I was invited to spend the day with my roommate from college and her family at Gold Eagle Campground. Even though Taylor and I have only know each other for a year and a half, her family has spent many summers’ just miles from my home. One thing Taylor has always known about me is that I have never water skied before. She and her family changed that on Monday evening.
Learning how to ski is a difficult task as it takes much coordination, strength, and control in the water. Giving water skiing a shot was a bit out of my character and I sure was nervous as I awaited my first attempt. Much to my surprise it wasn’t too bad as I made it half way out of the water my first time. After about a good twenty minutes of failing I succeed and experienced the thrill of riding the water. I’ll never forget the excitement. As I drove home Monday evening from the experience I realized learning how to ski is much like the risks we take in life. When we leave our comfort zones we try and try again before we ever experience success. Had I not left my comfortable seat on the boat Monday evening I never would have skied. Had I not auditioned to be in a community musical while in high school I wouldn’t have taken the stage as a lead character. If I never would have competed for Miss Perham I wouldn’t be writing to you today. We are given many opportunities in our lives to try new things, be challenged, and see ourselves succeed. This week I challenge you to take the next step towards a crazy dream, to lead a new idea, to share perspective you are fearful to share. And just maybe you will glide on the water of life with ease.

P.S. My weekend in Frazee, soon to arrive!!

Much love,
Paige

Parade of the Northwest and Bailey's Miss America's Outstanding Teen Send-Off

Today has been a busy and HOT day! But every minute of it was worth the little extra "glisten."

This afternoon I was a part of the Parade of the Northwest, the big finale to the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Celebration in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The ride was a bit warm, but the smiles and "little water" from the crowd made my time well spent. Once arriving in DL I searched for any clue as to where the Perham Express was. This parade is one of the biggest in the area with over 100 entries. Luckily, I spotted some sparkly crowns, MAO crowns to be exact! I was then greeted by Siri, our Miss MN and the newly crowned Northwest royalty Rebecca and Sarah. I was so happy to see familiar faces. Thankfully, Cindy, the wonderful director of the Miss Northwest program, escorted me to my float.

Pre-Parade I had a chance to visit with Katie and Hailey, area Frazee ladies. I also had the wonderful opportunity to meet the newly crowned Miss Thief River Falls. Of course we snapped some pictures and visited with other float neighbors. It's always nice to meet people from around the state of Minnesota. I even had a chance to catch up with some ladies I met last summer. It was good to see them.

Today I got to sit on top of the train instead of in the caboose. It sure was a great view! Seeing how parade watchers reacted to my spot on the train was quite hilarious. Some of them seemed worried about me! It was such a fun crowd today.

After the parade I made the commute to Brainerd in support of our Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen and my good friend, Bailey. She and I met just three short years ago when we competed for the title of MMOT in 2010. She and I were 2nd and 1st runner up together. I am confident our positions after the crowning brought us together as great friends. At the Franklin Arts Center Bailey shared much of her wardrobe for her week at Miss America's Outstanding Teen. She looked stunning!

Bailey is an incredible young woman of God who embraces the Miss America Organization with her entire being. Her work with her platform "Alzheimer's through the Eyes of a Child" has become her tireless cause to create comfort for those dealing with the disease. I have never been more proud of a wonderful friend and sister in Christ. Best wishes Bailey as you head to Miss America's Outstanding Teen. I know you will shine.

Much love,
Paige

Miss Perham...a busy 24-7 job!

Greetings readers,

So good to be back here once again! I am eager to share we now have five ladies competing for Miss Perham 2012. Each and every one of them will bring something so unique to our local stage. Even though my year of service is almost completed I am confident my journey in the Miss America Organization will continue. It has been a bit bittersweet to start working on my farewell. I have so many incredible people in my life. Miss Perham, Miss Heart of the Lakes and the first ever Miss Perham's Outstanding Teen will be crowned on August 10th, 2012 at the Perham High School Auditorium. Hope to see you there! The show will begin right at 7 o'clock.

Wednesday I was present at the Turtle Races in Perham. I stood proudly in the rain the entire morning as 317 people came to race their turtles. Luckily, Dan from the chamber, let me where his dark green 2XL sweater. Not to mention, with a huge turtle on the front. It was hilarious! I think I could have worn it as a cocktail dress. Good times!

I have a "funny" as I like to call it from this week. I love my job at Productive Alternatives. There sure never is a dull moment. On Monday I had a client approach me about my name being in the paper. As I weekly columnist I thought this individual was confusing "my appearance at the EOT Fair" with an article I had written. However, much to my surprise I was scheduled to sing the National Anthem at the fair promptly at 11:15 a.m. I will be honest, I am 99% sure I didn't know about it. However, the joy about living in a small community is that you know who to call. I spoke with the EOT Fair board and indeed they were excited to have me share the National Anthem. Wow! Talk about a busy schedule. I loved the appearance this morning it was such a nice addition to my day. I always appreciate the opportunity to honor America.

This weekend I will be in the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Parade. I am so excited!

I have also included my article from the Focus this week. This one was really special for me this week. :) Enjoy.

Greetings Perham,
Wow, if you are like my family you are doing everything possible to stay cool in this overwhelming heat. But hey, I am thankful for our short “season” of warmth before the snowflakes fall again. Living in a house with no air conditioning, however, can sometimes be a challenge. Thank goodness I have grandparents who leave on lakes.
Speaking of family, I have always been one to adore my family. From my wide variety of grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins there sure is never a dull moment. Being in close proximity with my family this summer has been one of my highlights. Over this past week I have learned one important lesson about family. Families have an inseparable bond. Whatever comes their way the power of family can overcome challenges, celebrate success, and share joyfully in idiosyncrasies. There is no such thing as the perfect family. We as individuals define family. I encourage you this week to appreciate your family and embrace them as members of a bigger picture and circle of love. I will always be thankful for my family even in the midst of brokenness, as that is often what draws us together.
Each and every week I am getting closer to the end of my reign as your Miss Perham 2011. I will be taking each and every minute to soak up the last few weeks and days. I am continually being reminded of the blessings I have experienced firsthand. The Miss Perham Scholarship Program is still seeking contestants for this years pageant. If interested please visit www.perhampageants.org.  I will be at the Turtle Races the next three weeks on Wednesday mornings. Please come visit us on the track. I would love to see each of you! Have a blessed week.

Much love,
Paige

Turtle Races, Miss Northwest and EOT Focus

My goodness! Where has the time gone!? I know I am a busy lady when my blog becomes about three appearances not just one. Goodness, I am so blessed to have such a wonderful community to become so involved in. :)

For the past two weeks I have been visiting the Perham International Turtle Races. I sure have a great time. This past week we had 370 races! Wohoo! We even had a racer from France who came to visit. My time at the Turtle Races is a nice break from my demands of 50 hour work weeks. Not to mention seeing familiar faces is quite a joy!

On Friday I sat in the visiting royalty section at Miss Northwest 2012. As the first runner up at Miss Northwest 2011, it sure was nice to reflect on who the person I was a year ago and how much I have grown as Paige Meyer. Sometimes thinking about it can be overwhelming. The Miss America Organization has helped me understand the direction I want to take in my life. I am so thankful for it.

Congratulations to my lovely friend, Rebecca Yeh Miss Northwest 2012. Watching Rebecca compete was quite the thrill! Rebecca is such a humble, talented, and stunning young woman. I am so proud of her!

I decided to include my last article in the EOT.

Stay tuned!

Much love,
Paige

Greetings friends,
It sure has been a beautiful couple of weeks and I am glad to say I have been able to get to the lake. I hope you are enjoying the weather and time with friends and family.
Last Friday I was scheduled to be involved in the New York Mills Parade. I'll be completely honest, parades can sometimes be a challenge. Appearances that allow personal interactions with individuals often are my highlights. As I drove to New York Mills, just a short 15 minute drive from my home, I was already beginning to think about my plans after the parade. However, little did I know I was in for a little lesson.
Time flew and before I new it the whistle blew!..and we where off in the streets of NYM. The one characteristic about parades that always stick out to me is the overwhelming amount of people involved. As I strolled the streets waving I saw many faces. Some of these faces were brightened by a smile, filled with fatigue, exemplified shy and nervous twitches, and some where faded with sadness. Each and every person I saw where at the parade for a different reason coming from a vast variety of circumstances. I saw single Mother's holding their children, elderly couples isolated in front of their homes, children who were wandering with no guardian, adults participating in destructive behavior, woman who were wearing head wraps because cancer had rid them from their hair.
It can become so easy to be consumed by our selfish desires, own worries, own struggles, and own plans that we miss the hurt, joy, and lives that surround us.When I was in NYM on Friday I all most missed it. Going to a parade seems so uneventful in learning a life lesson, but I hope I never miss the opportunities I have to brighten a person's day, even if that does mean waving in a parade. Be sure to make let your smile shine this week!

New York Mills Parade...Lesson learned!

Friday I was scheduled to be involved in the New York Mills Parade.

After finding the Perham Express train in the chaos of parade line-up, I snatched parking spot and walked a couple blocks (in four inch heels) to greet my drivers. While waiting for the parade to start I visited with KLN float volunteers, received some licorice, and visited with fellow friends.

Going to a parade seems so uneventful in learning a life lesson, but I hope I never miss the opportunities I have to brighten a person's day, even if that does mean waving in a parade.

Many blessings,

Right Back at It!

A busy week for Miss Perham!!

As many of you know I recently returned from LA. Well, life has not slowed down a bit! However, I am glad that I am in one location!

Last Thursday I began working right away which sent me into another whirlwind at home.

As some of you may know, I have two jobs this summer. However, I like to say I have three! During the week I work at our local grocery store bakery (which gives me a 4:15 am wake up time I must add) as the official donut froster. It sure gives me room to use my creative side. The other half of my week is spent at Productive Alternatives, a nonprofit that works with vulnerable adults, as a program assistant and job coach for our clients. And of course...Miss Perham!

This week's whirlwind has been crazy, but worth every minute.

Last Saturday evening I attended the Miss Brainerd Lakes and Miss Baxter Pageant. Seeing all of my lovely friends from Miss Minnesota was so refreshing. I sure did miss the girls that I got to know so well at Miss MN these last few weeks. Congratulations to Heather Erickson, the new Miss Brainerd Lakes, and Maren Goff the new Miss Baxter. I am eager to see where this year takes the two of you.

On Monday I made a stop at Lakess 99.5 in Perham to record a radio announcement for the Miss Perham Scholarship Pageant coming up on August 10th. I must admit my reign is almost complete. I don't like to use the word "over." Not only does it make me sad, but I know I still have work to "complete" in the Miss America Organization. Thanks to the wonderful and talented Dave Howey he and I recorded a PSA asking for contestants for Miss Perham and the first ever Miss Perham's Outstanding Teen. Dave also helped me edit a track I will be using the night I crown my successor. I am so eager to share what I have planned!

Tuesday afternoon I had one last official photo shoot as Miss Perham at Photo Magic in Perham. Each year they sponsor a photo of the current titleholder in her evening gown after she returns from Miss Minnesota. It felt so good to be all "dolled" up again. I will be seeing the images next week. I can't wait!

This evening, the 4th of July, I had the priveledge to honor America with the National Anthem and God Bless America at the grand opening of Tuffy's Stadium at Kruger Field in Perham. My community has been working on a beautiful project at our local baseball field to renovate the entire atmosphere. I am proud to say the new stadium and field look fabulous. The firework show to conclude the evening was the lace to the baseball! :) A HUGE thanks to all of the donors!

Happy, Happy 4th everyone! I hope you had a blessed day with friends and family. May you continue to be thankful for the people who have given their freedom for yours.

Much love,
Paige

Be Your Own Superhero. SADD National Conference in LA, CA!

I am honored and pleased to say I just completed my year of service on the Student Leadership Council for SADD National. If any of you are new to the idea of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), I'll fill you in. SADD was founded 31 years ago in a high school after two hockey players had been killed by a decision that could have been made differently. A small chapter arose from the school and today there are 10,000 SADD Chapters across the United States.

I began working closely with SADD about three years ago. Through my high school SADD advisor I heard about Northern Lights SADD, a tri-state region of students who were dedicated to constructive decision making. I was elected to the Northern Lights Advisory Board, a student board for NL SADD. Here I met incredible individuals who supported, encouraged, and gave me opportunities to share about my platform, "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke," but more importantly loved me for my morals, values, and as a powerful member of society. Through NL SADD I discovered Jamestown College, where I now attend school, the wonderful people of North Dakota, and SADD National. After being encouraged by Lee Erickson to apply for the National Student Leadership Council I applied. Two months later I was named to the council by the SADD National Office.

Throughout this year I have traveled to Chicago, New York, and L.A. to plan conferences, projects, and give valuable insight to powerful individuals in legal offices, board positions, organizations, and national staff. I have appreciated every moment. I have had the opportunity to travel places I have never been, meet new people, and share my passions with youth alike.

I had a wonderful time in L.A. visiting the Santa Monica Pier, Disneyland, and planning conference. However, my highlight of the trip was to hear the stories of our keynote speakers. The trials they have overcome inspire me to appreciate the "little" moments in life that may not always seem significant. These speakers also challenged me to thank and cherish my loved ones. It's easy to forget that sometimes and it never should be.

These last few weeks in June have left my spirit overflowing with appreciation, joy, and inspiration to continue making a difference in the lives of people who surround me. Each and every day I am eager to see what experiences await me. My prayer is that my eyes will see, my ears will hear, and my thoughts will be attentive to the moments that define my life and yours.

Much love and blessings,
Paige

EOT article "Miss Minnesota Reflections"

To my dear community of Perham,
I have just recently returned from an incredibly moving experience at Miss Minnesota 2012. I write this week as a Top Ten finalist and I couldn’t be more thankful for the entire journey. My week at Miss Minnesota was unforgettable. I came home with 21 more friends than before I left, a new focus, new outlook, and lots of encouragement. I was challenged, uplifted, and thrown into a whirlwind of experiences I couldn’t even imagine. As I stood on the Miss Minnesota stage I was so overwhelmed by the amount of genuine integrity that was demonstrated by my fellow contestants. A huge congratulations to the Lake Park native and our new Miss Minnesota, Siri Freeh. I had the incredible honor to stand by her side as she was named Miss Minnesota 2012. It was unbelievable. Even though I did not come home as Miss Minnesota I still find great pride and joy in finishing my year as Miss Perham 2011. I know my journey in the “pageant world” and in my community has not come to an end. I look forward to the days ahead as your representative. To see more of my reflections from Miss Minnesota week you can visit my blog at missperham2011.blogspot.com to learn more.
As many of you know Turtle Fest is now in session! Be sure to head to the turtle park this Friday to race your turtle. The big parade is also this Friday! It is always so exciting to see the people Turtle Fest draw in. I hope you take full advantage of the opportunities to enjoy Perham this weekend.

"The Rest" of my journey at Miss Minnesota 2012.

Today as I write this blog I sit at home after a long week of dedication, hard work, and extreme inspiration. I am still overwhelmed by all of the emotions from pageant week and am so thrilled to share the rest of my experiences I had during the last few days of competition.

On Friday (2nd night of prelims) I shared my onstage question and talent. It sure was an exciting night. I was so happy with my performances and thankful there were no major glitches. Much of Friday was spent relaxing and enjoying our preparations for the pageant and sharing in fellowship.

Saturday morning, myself and the 21 other contestants shared a Farewell Brunch with our Miss Minnesota Natalie Davis. I was so happy to see my Mom, pageant director Gina, and good friends who came to share the morning with me. After a week of having little contact with the people you love it is such a relief to see them. I almost felt like I was at college again. ;) The brunch was so inspiring as many individuals shared what they loved about Natalie. I am still astounded by her dedication to the job of Miss Minnesota. It was so nice to get to know her even more this week. Congratulations again, Natalie.

Saturday marked the final night of competition with the crowning of Miss Minnesota 2012. I was so nervous before the show began as I knew my journey on the Miss Minnesota stage could possibly come to an end. As I awaited the announcement of the Top Ten I was at peace until, I was still waiting to discover my fate after the ninth girl had been called. When my name was called as the final finalist I was so relieved. Immediately after the announcement was made a whirlwind began as I competed in every phase of competition again. The final night was the best physical, mental, and spiritual workout I have had in quite some time. It was incredible!

Before I knew it the time had come to crown our next Miss Minnesota. As I stood with the Top Ten finalists for Miss Minnesota I was so proud of how far we had all come. As each runner up was called I was so at peace. Even though I was not called as a top five finalist I had the great priviledge and honor to    stand beside Siri Freeh as she was named Miss Minnesota 2012. She had me in tears! The experience was incredibly moving and will forever be thankful for who truly holds her heart. She deserves an astounding amount of love and support as our Miss Minnesota. I am so excited for you, Siri!

After the pageant I was reunited with my roommate Taylor and friend Jessica, as well as my Mom and Dad, cousin Cassie, and many friends. And oh my the tears flowed! The blessings I experienced this past week were in such magnitude and I am forever grateful for them.

Even though pageant week is now over I still have a job left to do as your Miss Perham. The rest of my summer will be spent representing my community with poise, class, and integrity. The experiences I have had at Miss Minnesota this past week will be with me always. I am confident my journey in the Miss America Organization is not yet completed. I look forward to discovering the plans the Lord has for me. I know He will continue to be faithful as I search for where my next steps need to be made. I carry such excitement for the new adventures that await me.

A magnified thank you to every person who has encouraged me this past week. It has been so overwhelming to experience. I thank God each and every day for each of you. Please know I will carry your love with me always not only as a Miss Minnesota contestant, but as Paige Meyer.

Much love,
Paige

Day 4 and 1st PRELIM at Miss Minnesota!

First and foremost I most apologize for not getting these blogs out a bit sooner. However, these last few days have been so busy and my sleep has been much needed.

Day Four was a day filled with great food. Our first exciting stop was at The Original Pancake House. Here I had my first ever pumpkin pancakes. There were so fabulous. It was almost like experiencing an early Thanksgiving desert! I also enjoyed a magical cup of coffee. I say magical because it really did work some magic to wake me up.

After breakfast we (22 contestants plus chaperones) made our way to the Eden Prairie Performing Arts Center to do last minute run-throughs of production details. After several hours of narrowing down all of the details we enjoyed a lovely greek lunch. My they feed us well!

Lunch proceeded with more rehearsals and then once again it was time to eat! This time at Buca's a lovely little Italian restaurant that has the best pasta and deserts. The contestants and I enjoyed the family style atmosphere and shared quite a bit of laughs.

Wednesday evening was a day of preparation as interviews were held Thursdays morning. I had an incredible workout to get rid of some carbs, settle my mind, and reflect on the week. I headed to bed quite early Wednesday to be sure I was well rested for interview.

FIRST DAY of PRELIMS was Thursday beginning bright and early with interviews. The entire day was spent at the theatre preparing for different areas of competition and taking it easy. I so appreciate the extra time I was able to have just to relax and focus.

I had a wonderful time at the first night of prelims. I showcased my Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit and my Evening Gown. It was an incredible experience to stand on the stage, finally, as a contestant for the title of Miss Minnesota. It sure was a thrill! Visitation was held after the show and I was so thankful to see my Mom, directors, friends from college, and fellow pageant family members. I am so blessed!

Stay tuned and much love,
Paige

Day 3 was Jam Packed!

If I could name day three I would entitle it "Jam Packed."

Yesterday morning the alarm went off a bit earlier. Once my eyes woke up for the day the excitement started to settle in. IHOP, one of Children's Miracle Network supporters treated us to a wonderful breakfast of eggs and pancakes. They were delicious. I also enjoyed my first cup of coffee for the week here. My goodness, that was much needed! I had some time to catch up with our Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen, Bailey Wachholz. She is such an incredible and awe-inspiring young women. Her and I have know each other since my outstanding teen days and I am so thankful she is a part of my life. I also got a chance to get to know some of the other contestants. We have such a sweet group.

After our tummies were full we snapped a picture with the IHOP team to capture the memory and headed straight back to the hotel for rehearsal. I am so excited to reveal the production number we have been working on. It is outstanding! Makenzie Ross Erickson has been phenomenal to work with. Johnny Command has also been a complete joy and brought many smiles to our rehearsals. Our new board of directors have been such a blessings as well. Putting together a show at this level is such hard work and I am so thankful for their dedication.

Before we knew it lunch time had arrived. We enjoyed a lovely lunch right here at the hotel in our rehearsal room which was so nice!

The afternoon was spent rehearsing more! But this time swimsuit, evening gown, and the finale were a big focus. Ahh! I just get so excited thinking about it!

Last night we enjoyed our free time at the Mall of America. The SkyDeck sponsored our meal and entertainment. I ate great food, bowled, and had a great time! My bowling team and I were not excellent bowlers, but it sure helped us create a lot of great memories. After supper we spent 2 hours at Nickelodeon Universe. I was placed in group two for the night and I can honestly say we tried almost every ride in the park. It's a bit out of my character to try crazy rides, but I sure did! We were all pretty tired by the end of the evening.

More sleep, and more sleep is the key! Thanks for checking in!

Much love,
Paige

Day 2 at Miss Minnesota

Wow! Miss Minnesota Pageant Week has been in full swing. We never stop moving here! I'm having an incredible time and loving every minute of it. I sure do feel like a celebrity here in Minneapolis along with the other 21 young ladies. Our sponsors of each appearance have showered us with love and support.

Much of yesterday morning was spent at the local CMN supported hospital Gillette Children's Speciality Healthcare. Myself and the other 21 contestants spent our morning signing autographs for children receiving care at Gillette. The few encounters I had with each patient left me inspired and thankful. Each child from Gillette has a unique story which has entailed much determination and recovery. They were so uplifting.

After visiting with the patients we enjoyed a lunch sponsored by Gillette. We spent some down time getting to know each other and sharing about our platforms. My goodness am I surrounded by wonderful young women. I am so blessed!

Our afternoon was dedicated to rehearsal and more rehearsal. All of you attending the pageant are in for a real treat. We had a wonderful time rehearsing. :)

All of us shared a lovely dinner at the hotel. We all really appreciated the bit of down time we were able to have there as well. We have surely been treated like queens.

Much of our evening was spent....rehearsing. Putting the final touches on the production number and rehearsing our talents made each of us feel at ease. Natalie, our Miss Minnesota, also shared more about Miss America's largest supporter, Artistry and Amway Products. We even got to have a bit of taste testing time.

Day 2....complete!!

Much love,
Paige

Day 1 at Miss Minnesota Week. :)

Oh my does it feel great to have everything I need in one place here at the Crowne Plaza!

Today was packed, literally with packing and unpacking and traveling from one place to the next. I am so excited to be here and am really looking forward to the wonderful days ahead.

Tonight we had our very first event "Prelude to the Crown." The 22 contestants along with former Miss Minnesota's celebrated the sisterhood we all share as title holders at the local, state, and national levels. I had a wonderful time catching up with former Miss Minnesota's and meeting new ones. I also had a wonderful time getting to know the ladies I will be with all week long.

This evening we took some press photos at the WaterPark of America and the Mall of America. Getting 22 ladies all lined up and in order can be a bit of a challenge. I think we will be pro's by the end of the week! :)

It's time!

This morning as I finish packing for Miss Minnesota and enjoy some breakfast I am consumed by such joy, excitement and gratitude for what is about to take place! The much anticipated week I have been looking forward to since being named Miss Perham 2011 is finally here.

The week of Miss Minnesota means more to me than accolades, thrills, and rewards; this week is all about the people I represent as Miss Perham. I am so honored to represent my community that has surrounded me with such love and care for almost 20 years. I will make it my goal and pursue every effort I can to shine for others. God has truly put incredible people in my life and I owe many praises for them.

An overwhelming thanks goes to my family, friends, mentors, directors, sponsors, teachers, and loved ones who have encouraged me not only as a contestant for Miss Minnesota, but as a young woman of God. I am forever thankful.

I will be available this week over email, facebook, and phone. However, my time will be limited to communication as I will be busy with press appearances and rehearsals. For updates and photos from the week please visit facebook at "Miss Minnesota Scholarship Pageant", missminnesota.org, and right here at my blog! Any well wishes can be sent to:

"This is it!" EOT article.

Well everyone, this is it! I am now on my way to the Miss Minnesota stage. I will be leaving this Sunday afternoon to begin the week of incredible memories and opportunities at Pageant Week. The final touches and details are in place and I am thrilled to represent all of you as I compete at the state level. Let’s hope I have some exciting news to share with all of you when I make it back. Stay tuned for next weeks article as I write my article live from Eden Prairie in the midst of final days the competition.
There are many people I need to thank before my adventure at Miss Minnesota begins. However, many of these individuals may not always willing accept my thanks and gratitude because of their selfless character to serve. As I perform on the Miss Minnesota stage these people will be my source of inspiration and most importantly be the people I represent. These specific people that come to mind each have a piece of my heart. I am forever grateful to this community for supporting and encouraging me as I have prepared and worked hard to represent Perham on the Miss Minnesota stage.
The competition makes up three days of hard work and performance. The pageant begins on Thursday June 14th with my interview taking place in the morning. That evening I will compete in evening gown, and lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit. Friday I will compete in talent and on stage question. Saturday the Top 10 will be announced. If selected I will once again compete in all areas of competition and be in the final running for the title of Miss Minnesota.

Celebrating loved ones and their accomplishments. Congrats to my sister Bailey for graduating hs!

Greetings Perham,
Congratulations once again to the class of 2012! I had a wonderful weekend celebrating with my sister Bailey and many of her fellow classmates. What an exciting time for our “seniors” who will now begin a new chapter in their lives. I am eager to see how each individual will make an impact on our world. Graduation sure brought back many memories from celebrating my very own graduation. A large thanks goes to every person who contributed to celebrating the class of 2012!
Speaking more on the note of school, Perham Schools have just finished their last week of the school year. Wow! How fast did the time soar by? I’m sure many of you are thrilled to begin your summer plans. My family and I are sure excited to head to the lake and enjoy the warm weather.
Miss Minnesota is now just two weeks away and each day I get more and more eager to begin my journey at Miss Minnesota. This weekend at the Frazee Event Center I will be celebrating my send-off at 7:00 p.m. My wardrobe, talent, and evening gown will be showcased along with three other area royalty. I know it’s a busy weekend for many with the continuation of celebrating graduation, but if you available feel free to join us.
This past week I have been flooded by great memories from my high school days and once again am amazed by the love, support, and guidance many individuals in our community give. As I sat at commencement last weekend I was floored at the amount of people who had joined together to celebrate loved ones and their accomplishments. My hope is that we remember those people in our lives who have helped us grow, succeed, and achieve. Without them we would not have such wonderful memories, opportunities, and growth as individuals. Thank those people in your life this week.

"My hope, prayer, and advice for the Perham High Class of 2012" highlighted in the EOT Focus

Greetings readers,
I decided to debut the EOT article this week early on my blog. It is dedicated to our graduates! :)
Enjoy!

Much love,
Paige

Greetings Perham,
If any of you made it to the Perham High Concert Choir Pops Concert last week what a treat! Once again I find myself overjoyed by the students who leave their comfort zones to share their talents. Congratulations on a wonderful presentation of talent, hard work, and dedication to all who were involved. Watching from the audience this year gave me a new and exciting perspective. Lot’s of memories flooded through my mind as I watched all of you perform. Stunning job my friends.
Well, the week of graduation has finally arrived for the Class of 2012. Congratulations graduates. Many blessings to you as you begin the next chapter of your life. It will be an exciting time as your days become filled with experiences, challenges, new friendships, opportunities, and blessings. Cherish the last few moments of “glory” in your high school as you walk to receive your diploma. You only graduate from high school once. Take time to enjoy your last few interactions with all that are around you.  Most importantly, don’t forget to say your “Thank you’s” to the people who have touched and impacted your life forever. For all of the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, mentors, and friends of our fellow graduates be confident in cherishing the memories you have shared.
It’s hard to believe I have been a graduate of Perham High School for an entire year now.  At times I can still remember the excitement and how incredibly blessed I felt as I completed my high school career. This past week I have realized even though “home” changes daily, we can all look to the changes and new opportunities as an exciting journey that lies ahead for each and every individual impacted. My hope and prayer for our graduates is that they leave Perham, Minnesota touched by all of us ready to make a difference in our world for others. Blessings, graduates and many congratulations!

Looking ahead to Miss Minnesota. EOT article.

Hello Perham,
I hope the Mom’s in our community had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I sure enjoyed the time with my Mom and surprising her a bit here and there. Where would we be without our Mother’s?
Last Sunday I received the “official” schedule for Pageant Week of Miss Minnesota 2012. Reading through the week made my tummy flutter and to be honest I panicked just slightly as I realized how close it really is. I have been waiting for the Miss Minnesota pageant for months since I was crowned Miss Perham and I can hardly believe it’s almost here! Some of the highlights for the week include a visit to Gilette Children’s Hospital, the Mall of America, Skyline Cosmic Bowling, Original Pancake House, IHOP, and lot’s and lot’s of yummy food! Of course the competition will be the major event of the week!
As I look ahead to Miss Minnesota I was reminded of an important little lesson. Many times in our life we like to look ahead to the future. We sometimes can find ourselves worrying about what is next, what if this or that happens, or why can’t I decided what my next days will look like. Yes, it is good to look ahead, shoot for goals and dreams, but most importantly remembering that we need to enjoy today. As I make final preparations for Miss Minnesota I will do my best to focus on being satisfied with where things are today and staying calm. I would encourage you to do the same as panic may arise when we realize we don’t always have control of our circumstances. May you be satisfied in your days this week. Many blessings to you my friends.

Pizza with Miss Perham

Tonight I held my last Pizza Ranch Fundraiser before Miss Minnesota. Once again I am amazed by the support of my community. I had a wonderful time seeing people I haven't seen in quite some time.

I was greeted by a very ambitious and excited Girl Scout troop. They wanted not one, but two autograph cards from me and they even offered to take a picture with me. They were so cute! I really think there was a future Miss Perham in that bunch. I am sure of it.

A couple of years ago I left my camera and phone on the top of my car and drove away with it. The items fell off and laid in the middle of the road without my knowledge. However, a wonderful women brought my items to the police department. The next day I was relieved to be handed my items. Tonight I met the women who brought my phone and camera to the police department almost two years ago. I love living in a small community.

After the fundraiser we had six young ladies who are interested in becoming Miss Perham and Miss Perham's Outstanding Teen attend a meeting about the pageant in August. I can't wait to find out who are next ladies will be!

Blessings!

Paige

Home Sweet Home...EOT article

Greetings readers,
Home sweet home! It is so great to be back in Perham, Minnesota for the summer. Oh, how I missed our community. This past week I started working at the Dean’s Bakery. I’m up bright and early each morning to be there at 5 a.m. to frost donuts. Be sure to stop by and say hi sometime! The job works perfectly with my Miss Perham schedule, especially with preparations continuing for Miss Minnesota.
I’m not even really quite sure where to begin with this week’s column. I still feel like my head is spinning a bit from finals week and moving out of my dorm room. I had a wonderful last week at college and thoroughly enjoyed my last days with friends and last choir performances for the year. It was a little challenging to leave as I really started to establish relationships and “home” in Jamestown. But I am so thankful to spend quality time with my family and see many of you this summer. Not to mention, let my brain recover from all the learning. What a great school year it has been.
Miss Minnesota is coming faster than ever and I am working against the clock to wrap up last minute details. I’m really getting excited. I feel like I have said that a lot, but I truly am. It’s going to be quite an adventure. The website is now up and running and I am thrilled to share where you can find it. Head to www.missminnesota.org to meet the fellow ladies I will be competing with. Be sure to also visit the locals page to learn more about Miss Perham. I am also excited to announce that the next Miss Perham pageant is tentatively planned to take place on August 17, 2012. I wonder who our next Miss Perham will be? I can’t wait to see. I know last week I mentioned a blog story about my top 10-15 life lessons I leaned about college. Well, I got them down to 25! If you haven’t visit my blog please do at www.missperham2011.blogspot.com Have a wonderful week.

Top 25 Lessons of my freshman year. :)

Greetings readers,

Well, as most of you know I just finished my freshman year of college studying music education in Jamestown, ND. I had a wonderful year. One that is filled with many new and exciting experiences, many of which I never thought or knew would come my way.

Throughout the year I leaned many new things, many of which, I like to call my life lessons for the year. Some of them are hilarious, serious, meaningful, and ones that I learned in the midst of fear of the unknown. I'm sure every person who has "survived" their first year of college can tell you it's the biggest "growing" year. I'm thrilled to share the lessons I learned. I hope as you read you can find ways they relate to your own life. :) Enjoy!

My 2011-2012 College Life Lessons.
Jamestown College, ND

#1 Be sure to always make sure you have access to "man power..." if you are a female ;) You will need help carrying your extra large wardrobe up many flights of stairs. Not to mention, if you need assistance setting up a loft, they will save you extra hassle, time, and will liberate you from looking like a complete fool. ;)

#2 Now that you are in college school work turns into your life. You do homework every chance you get, you can spend up to an hour on one math problem, an entire week to write a three page paper, and hours upon hours in the practice room. :)

#3 You no longer go to school from 8 am to 3:30, it starts when you are awakened to an alarm and the day ends when you hit your pillow.

#4 Sometimes the struggle to understand a course or assignment will actually inspire, challenge, motivate, and make you push yourself beyond what you thought possible. :)

#5 Learning how to "dictate" music makes you think critically about music all the time. When you sing hymns in a church you will now be searching for the key, time signature, establishing where "do" is, and determining what kind of conducting pattern you would use if you were in front of a choir. (shout out for my music fellows!)

#6 Your friends are now your family. They will be your immediate access support system. Love you guys!

#7 Sometimes you have to pretend you know what you are doing, just to survive! ;)

#8 Instead of going out to eat with your friends or to a movie with your friends like you would in high school, study parties are now what you do to hang out.

#9 Taking a break is essential to staying sane. It's ok to stop studying for just a few minutes.

#10 You will now have a deeper appreciation for your family. Phone calls, cards, and even occasional visits can leave you a bit teary eyed.

#11 Leaving your comfort zone is the key to growth as an individual....exactly what college is.

#12 Appreciate a busy schedule, one that demands more than you think you can even fulfill.

#13 Sometimes you have to except the fact that you may fail time and time again before you see any success or improvement.

#14 The days are LONG, weeks are fast, months fly!!!

#15 The salad bar and fruit bowl is your best friend in the cafeteria. It's your only source of healthy options!

#16 Freshman fifteen avoidable? Absolutely, if you head to the gym 5 days a week. (especially, if you have a swimsuit competition in June of 2012, one month after your first year of college ;)) Shout out to my pageant peeps!

#17 If your appreciation starts to fade for your subject area, get INSPIRED fast!!! If you don't goals start to get hazy.

#18 Get involved!! Take every opportunity to travel, meet new people, and be challenged!

#19 The people you meet are the highlight of your year. You may encounter someone you never thought you would meet. Be thankful for new faces and all of the names you may have to memorize.

#20 Getting extra help from your professors will hold you accountable.

#21 Taking time to visit your community and the people you miss the most will be your source of encouragement. Without those emails, calls, and visits the home sickness will sink in really fast.

#22 Your roommate will become your sister! Love you, Taylor!

#23 Your relationship with the Lord will continue to mean more and more as you face new challenges. Relying on the Him will encompass an entirely new and exciting meaning.

#24 Taping quotes, inspirations, and bible scriptures all over your dorm room will remind you to keep going when you feel like you can't.

#25 As challenging as college is- don't wish the time away! Being uncomfortable, challenged, stressed, and inspired will bring you to paths you have never trod...and it's ok! ;)
